Last year I made a pact with my skin to take the extra step and commit to a facial every 4 weeks. Its been a little over a year now and my skin feels hydrated and amazing through the dry Arizona summers and current transition into cooler weather.
Since then I have shyed away from being a personal sampler of every product available in the Sephora VIP club. I think I’m up to around 700 points right now… oh, the possibilities. Having great skin is so important to me. It gives you the extra confidence to walk out of your house completely naked (of makeup) and not feel the pressure of always covering up. We all want to run to the grocery store without having to glob foundation on our skin. Make a point to invest in yourself.
I was approached to do a review for a new skincare line that launched in July 2014. Although I was in love with the regimen I was currently using, I figured why not test a product that could be even better for my skin. Before agreeing to receive the Discovery Collection, I did my research on creator Dr. Roshini Raj. Dr. Raj is a board certified gastroenterologist and internist who holds a special interest in women’s health. She believes we should take care of our insides to look good on the outside, which I too strongly agree with that statement. Dr. Raj co-founded Tula, which is a little different than normal lines as it uses a patented probiotic technology.
Why use probiotics in skincare?
“The American Academy of Dermatoloy has called probiotics one of the new beauty breakthroughs as they’ve been shown to help with clearer skin, decreased skin sensitivity, redness, and inflammation,” Dr. Raj says. “You may also see a reduced appearance of fine lines […]

Influence Central received a complimentary sample of four TULA skincare products in order to facilitate this review. All of the opinions expressed are our own.
Despite its beauty, winter proves our largest enemy when it comes to keeping our faces happy, healthy, and moisturized. Even our most tried-and-true skincare regimens often fail the needs of seasonally dry skin. This holiday season, indulge in a new skincare line, or gift one to a loved one with TULA’s 4 Piece Deluxe Discovery Set. TULA skincare, launched this fall exclusively for QVC, provides four amazing products that massage, wash, and revitalize dry, winter skin to leave your face feeling clean, soft, and moisturized all day long.
A great face wash, TULA’s Purifying face cleanser removes both makeup and the impurities our skin collects throughout the day. The line’s Illuminating Face Serum evens skin tone and refines textures that can become scratchy and dry as temperatures grow colder. TULA’s Hydrating Day and Night Cream soothes as it reduces fine lines and just feels great when applied in the morning and night. And we know to treat the delicate skin around our eyes with care, and can do so using TULA’s Revitalizing Eye Cream that nurtures skin damaged by winter’s harsh conditions.
The skincare line does have a perfume smell as you apply, but the flowery scent fades as your skin absorbs the product and you are moisturized and feeling fresh-faced for the day and night. Find out more information on TULA skincare products and their pricing at the line’s website, where you can also buy the complete travel-sized line for $49.99.

“Probiotics are beneficial bacteria or yeast — organisms that offer multiple benefits to the human body,” according to Dr Roshini Raj, a gastroenterologist and founder of TULA, a line of skin care featuring probiotic technology.
Probiotics can come in many forms such as yogurt, Kefir, and supplements. These probiotic organisms actually can reduce gut inflammation when consumed and restore the lining of the intestines. But today, we are talking all about skin care!
I received the “4 Piece Deluxe Discovery Set” to review and I have to say it is a great deal. You get the Purifying Face Cleanser, Hydrating Day & Night Cream, Illuminating Face Serum, and theRevitalizing Eye Cream. It is kind of like getting a sample of everything before you dedicate your time (and money) to any collection of products.
The TULA line is fabulous and I will already be making an order of the full sized products. I do not know if this is the skin care product that I have been searching for or what, but my skin feels so smooth and more luminous and not to mention the moisturizer feels so light. I already feel like ditching my old skin care products and just purchasing this right away (oops, already did that, sorry Dermalogica!)
I typically do not like buying products from the same company when they are in a set, but this isn’t your average company like Proactiv for example.
My favorite item from the product line is the illuminating serum! As I am walking to class everyday in the 20 degree weather, my face can become rather dull and dry, but as I have been using this I haven’t had a problem with that at all. Aside from that I never have […]
Probiotics are great for your gut, but might they also be the next beauty and skincare miracle?
Possibly.
Listen in as Dr. Roshini Raj discusses how probiotics — both externally and internally — can benefit your skin, as well as other top beauty foods you can use to help improve your appearance.
Just this year, the American Academy of Dermatology called probiotics the new beauty breakthrough for 2014, whether used topically or internally.
What sorts of conditions can probiotics help with?
Studies have shown positive results with eczema, acne and rosacea, as well as for general skin health, including anti-aging benefits, decreased sensitivity to UV rays, and decreased skin inflammation (which is the root of all evil when it comes to your skin).
How do these topical products work? Certainly you can’t just crush up a probiotic supplement and apply it to your skin in a mask… or can you?
The process is a bit more complicated than that. Skincare products that contain probiotics have gone through a process in which the live bacteria has been centrifuged (basically stirred up and released all their good benefits) and then mixed with other elements that are good for your skin, like peptides. Then, this whole concoction is manifested as a cream, serum, moisturizer, cleanser, etc. Essentially, these products have all the benefits of probiotics, without applying live bacteria to the face or other skin areas.
Now, that’s not to say that you can’t use live bacteria to try to achieve the same result. Yogurt is always a great element for a homemade facial.
If you only take probiotic supplements internally, can you achieve the same results as using these topical products?
Studies have shown that yes, they both can have the same benefits, but also that […]
Who needs brick-and-mortar?
A new breed of beauty brands like Jay Manuel Beauty, Glossier, Beautycounter and Tula have scrapped the old adage of “Try before you buy,” and are in favor of taking their products directly to the consumer via TV or the Internet to ignite impulse sales.
These upstart brands are creating beauty’s new reality, one where fashion seems to be ahead of the game with e-commerce players like Warby Parker, BaubleBar, Bonobos and Negative Underwear, among others.
“[Consumers are] buying [online] with the incentive that you’re first to have it,” said Karen Grant, vice president and global beauty industry analyst at The NPD Group Inc. “You’re getting these special deals or you’re getting the sneak peak. There’s a lot of buzz and fun for that impulse purchase, too.”
NPD reported that in 2013 the prestige market was up 5 percent, but the direct-to-consumer category was up 19 percent and it was growing about equally between makeup and skin care. Fragrance on the other hand, isn’t so appealing to purchase online.
Grant added, “The makeup category has been huge. The presence of brands like Sephora and MAC [online] has really helped to create a lot of excitement because it’s so visually easy to see color [on screen].”
While the likes of Sephora and Amazon may dominate beauty e-commerce, these new direct-to-consumer brands believe they have a competitive advantage with their authentic voice. Plus, smaller brands find it’s hard to differentiate themselves in a department or specialty store with the absence of multimillion-dollar advertisingcampaigns.
“There’s a cost obviously associated with launching digitally,” said Grant. “But in-store you have to have inventory and personnel. In a store you have to ask, How can I get the space to make sure someone sees me there?”

This month, I turned 28 and immediately started referring to myself as an “old lady.” I know, I know – I’m not really old, far from it. BUT, there are things about myself that I’m noticing are changing. Like, I’m becoming more responsible with making financial decisions (This I can’t equate 100% to getting older – it helps whenever your husband works in finance!). And, I’m opting much more for “nights in” instead of “nights out.” Most of all, I’m realizing that taking better care of myself is a MUST.
I’ve realized that I can’t buy the same cheap makeup I did in high school. I’m not stalking Forever 21 to get 10 pairs of cheap leggings at the beginning of fall, but instead going to Bloomingdales and getting 2 really good pairs. And, I most definitely can’t sleep with my makeup on anymore. My skincare routine has changed dramatically, and I’ve made a pact with myself to spend the extra cash on products that really do the job and will keep my skin looking young and in good health.
Why I’m Using TULA
I was recently introduced to the new beauty regimen, TULA – am I’m pretty much in love with the 4 products that comprises this skincare system! I was on the prowl for a skincare routine that truly made my skin feel clean (because some just don’t!), and I wanted to be able to see a difference. Other concerns of mine were how dry my skin becomes as the temperatures drop, and of course taking preventive action against aging while I’m still young.
After using this product for a few weeks, I can honestly say that my skin looks and feels great! I am even […]
Thanks to my recent IBS diagnosis, I have a profound interest in probiotics. Just one little capsule of “good” bacteria a day (along with cutting just about everything fun out of my diet) seems to be making my belly less irritable—and treating my skin to probiotics has been beneficial as well. Since committing to TULA (which means “balance” in Sanskrit) my skin is visibly less red, more radiant and all around in a better mood, just like me.
This probiotic-infused collection initially caught my eye because it’s the brainchild of a gastroenterologist named Dr. Roshini Raj (who obviously understands the effect of probiotics when taken internally). Studies about the effects of probiotics on the skin are a bit harder to come by, but I did a quick Google Scholar search and found research linking them to improvement in eczema and atopic dermatitis, so there’s definitely a connection whether it’s well understood or not.
TULA’s probiotic technology uses these good bacteria to defend the skin against “bad” bacteria (one type of which causes acne… Hmm). In addition to probiotics, the Purifying Face Cleanser, Illuminating Face Serum, Hydrating Day & Night Cream, and Revitalizing Eye Cream are also formulated with peptides, antioxidants and omega fatty acids for an all-around skin-nourishing and anti-aging regimen. All of the products are gluten-free as well, which is nice because I’m gluten-free now, too.
Aside from happy skin, I have to say how much I love the scent. It’s soft and powdery, and I’m not one to underestimate the connection between fragrances and emotions. The cleanser does a great job at removing makeup, the moisturizer is amazingly hydrating without being greasy so it doesn’t interfere with makeup in the morning, and the eye cream […]
One of the most wanted things in this world is beauty. Who doesn’t want to become beautiful, right? As much as possible, we want to look attractive and we want to maintain this look as long as we can. One way of accomplishing this is to resort to beauty products that we often hear or see on TV or read in beauty magazines. However, these products are usually synthetic and basically contain ingredients which are not supposed to be taken up by our body naturally. As these toxic substances are being exposed, beauty experts are now focusing on natural ingredients thus not to alter the natural components of our body.
Since I’m one of those who wants to maintain natural beauty, I see to it that before I go to sleep, I’m able to clean my face with TULA’s Purifying Face Cleanser. It thoroughly washes off all the dirt from my activities over the day. To continue the regimen and feel the glow, I also use the Illuminating Face Serum and indeed it lives up to its name. As a mom, I do have my share of sleepless nights so this Revitalizing Eye Cream has been of great help. To sum everything up, their Hydrating Day and Night Cream will keep all the hydration that my body needs to maintain that natural glow and feel. Definitely, TULA made a great change in my appearance and how I feel about myself.
I’m really loving using this Tula probiotic skincare line. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and I can see a big improvement. I live in Colorado where it’s dry and having these quality skincare products makes my skin more radiant and […]
Easily becoming one the of the hottest new ingredients in skincare, skin-rejuvenating probiotics have found their way inside many new beauty releases lately. But if you’re a tad skeptical, gastroenterologist and the genius behind Tula Skincare, Dr. Roshini Raj explains the science behind this growing trend:
“Probiotics are becoming the latest trend in the beauty industry as recent studies are showing that their health-promoting effects extend way beyond gut well-being and include powerful skin health benefits. Topical application of probiotics also helps strengthen natural skin defenses, lower the stress level in the skin and re-balance the skin’s pH level. A healthy environment of the good bacteria helps skin fight against damage caused by free radicals, allergens and other environmental factors. By calming inflammation and acting as a barrier that forms a protective shield for the skin’s surface, probiotics are also effective in targeting wrinkles and skin-aging aggressors. They can also help to hydrate aging skin, improve its elasticity and reduce sensitivity and sun damage.”
So, are you ready to bring some skin-renewing action to your complexion? We’ve got ten products to help you try this trend easily. From cleansers to serums, any of these goodies will give you gorgeous, healthier-looking skin.
