What’s Trending in Skincare: Probiotics

“Probiotics are beneficial bacteria or yeast — organisms that offer multiple benefits to the human body,” according to Dr Roshini Raj, a gastroenterologist and founder of TULA, a line of skin care featuring probiotic technology.

Probiotics can come in many forms such as yogurt, Kefir, and supplements. These probiotic organisms actually can reduce gut inflammation when consumed and restore the lining of the intestines. But today, we are talking all about skin care!

I received the “4 Piece Deluxe Discovery Set” to review and I have to say it is a great deal. You get the Purifying Face Cleanser, Hydrating Day & Night Cream, Illuminating Face Serum, and theRevitalizing Eye Cream. It is kind of like getting a sample of everything before you dedicate your time (and money) to any collection of products.

The TULA line is fabulous and I will already be making an order of the full sized products. I do not know if this is the skin care product that I have been searching for or what, but my skin feels so smooth and more luminous and not to mention the moisturizer feels so light. I already feel like ditching my old skin care products and just purchasing this right away (oops, already did that, sorry Dermalogica!)

I typically do not like buying products from the same company when they are in a set, but this isn’t your average company like Proactiv for example.

My favorite item from the product line is the illuminating serum! As I am walking to class everyday in the 20 degree weather, my face can become rather dull and dry, but as I have been using this I haven’t had a problem with that at all. Aside from that I never have […]

Beauty Update: November

This month has been a fairly slow month for new beauty products, but I think that is going to be changing soon. It has gotten so much colder that I know I need to make some updates to keep my skin in good shape to deal with the cold outside and the drying heat inside. Ah, winter.

TULA Skin Care: I’m always interested in trying new skin care brands and I had the chance to try the TULA line this month. The line was developed by Dr. Roshini Raj (who you may see on the Today show from time to time – and she has flawless, gorgeous skin!) and is infused with a probiotic complex. This was a pretty new concept to me, I thought probiotics were just for stomach-related health, but they have very naturally strong benefits for your skin, as well. The products are very well balanced and packed with nourishment for your skin, which you can really feel when you use them.

My very favorite product in the line is the Revitalizing Eye Cream, especially in the morning. It is a nice thick consistency (but not heavy) and is super hydrating, essential all the time but especially in the winter. It also felt like it really did “wake up” my eyes and I could really see a difference in a very short period of time!

Another favorite was the purifying face cleanser. I’m pretty iffy on cleansers and will just pick up something at the drugstore when I run out of whatever I had or whatever I may see first. I think I’ve found a keeper with this TULA cleanser though, it does a really great job removing eye makeup and didn’t make my skin feel tight or itchy at all. […]

TULA: Help Balance Your Skin with Probiotic Beauty Care

I am a firm believer in probiotics for digestive health and immune system support, but, recently I got the chance to try out a skincare line that incorporates probiotics into their beauty products. Can they help skincare as well?

tulā’ [ tulA ]: the sanskrit word for balance.

Recognizing the need for women to achieve balance in life, Dr. Roshini Raj recently co-founded Tula, a healthy-living brand launched in July 2014 with a new skin care line that uses a patented probiotic technology. As a gastroenterologist who has dedicated her life to educating the public on healthy living, Dr.  Raj realizes the importance of balance in all things internal and external.

Not only does she teach ways to find balance but she practices what she preaches while juggling her roles as a mother, wife, doctor, best-selling author, and media personality. She understands that inner harmony leads to outer beauty, and that feeling beautiful and radiant on the outside can improve how we feel internally.

Tula’s Probiotic technology promotes a natural balance, helps stabilize the skin’s immune system, enhances repair activity, counteracts degeneration of structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin, provides increased moisture, restores the skin’s natural equilibrium, and reduces irritation. These ingredients help protect the skin against negative environmental influences.

I received a lovely package of goodies from Tula so that I could try out their products. These products included the Tula Purifying Face Cleanser, Illuminating Face Serum, Revitalizing Eye Cream and Hydrating Day and Night Cream.

The packaging is absolutely gorgeous and the azure shade of the containers reminds me of sea glass. The scent is a light clean floral.

The Tula Purifying Face Cleanser helps cleanse pores without drying the skin. I have to say that this is by far my favorite out of all of them simply because […]

#TulaForLife 30 Days to Balanced Skin Challenge

I was given the opportunity to try a new skin care product line. Tula is created with Tula Probiotic Technology. This line features rice proteins, vitamins A, C and E, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and fruit extracts. The technology also contains a complex that includes yogurt, green tea and blueberry extracts. In addition, each product helps deliver antioxidants to fight free radical attack, while helping promote a youthful appearance.

The kit that I had the pleasure of trying for the last 30 days included:

Purifying Face Cleanser
Illuminating Face Serum
Revitalizing Eye Cream
Hydrating Day and Night Cream

I started out with the Purifying Face Cleanser. I fell in love with this product right away. I am always looking for a good cleanser. It was amazing how little of the product that I needed to use to get the job done. It left my skin feeling silky smooth and super clean.

The Illuminating Face Serum was easily absorbed and did not leave my face feeling greasy like a lot of other products I have used in the past.I found that during the first week the serum made my skin dry and it was peeling off. After the second week the peeling had stopped and my skin was left softer than I have ever experienced. It really seemed to tone up the skin too.

I did not see that much difference with the Revitalizing Eye Cream, I imagine this is because I do not suffer from under eye puffiness or dark circles. Once again it did leave my skin feeling fantastic anyways.

With the Hydrating Day and Night Cream, I used this in the morning and night and loved it. I have normal skin so it is not too dry. I used this sparingly in the morning and at night, […]

I Took The TULA Skincare 30 Days to Balanced Skin Challenge! #TulaForLife

I am happy to say I Took The TULA Skincare 30 Days To Balanced Skin Challenge! I have lots to share with you, so please read on!

When I first received my package for the TULA Skincare challenge, I was eager to open it up and see what all the hype was about. This kit came with some great skincare products and I put them to use that night.

I really started noticing a difference in my skin around week three. My skin, since starting this skincare line from the beginning, felt renewed, softer, more supple and hydrated. The lines around my eyes and mouth seemed less noticeable and my face just appeared more younger and vibrant. I did not notice my pores reduced however or any tightness or firmness in my skin. But, over the 30 day testing period, my skin has transformed into a softer and healthier looking appearance. I am really liking it!

What Caffeine Can (and Can’t) Do for Your Sex Life

By Dr. Roshini Raj

I read somewhere that caffeine can dampen sex drive. True?
Worry not, java lovers! This is mostly a myth. You may have seen online that coffee messes with blood sugar levels, which stresses your adrenal glands and is said to tamp down hormones related to sex drive. Nope: While caffeine can raise blood sugar slightly in people with type 2 diabetes, it doesn’t have this effect on healthy adults. So it’s highly unlikely that caffeine will decrease your libido. In fact, one study performed on female rats found that caffeine increased sexual motivation.

Still, everyone reacts to a caffeine buzz differently, so there is a chance coffee could hurt your drive. For some, caffeine exacerbates anxiety, which can dampen the mood if you can’t focus because you’re worrying about other things. On the other hand, caffeine is a stimulant, so it may give you more energy to have sex! If you suspect java is blocking your pleasure, try cutting back to see if that revs things up.

Winter Skin Care Routine

Hands up if you like your morning routine to be quick and painless? Let’s face it rolling out of bed at a quarter to seven is pure torture, especially if your not a morning person! I try to adjust my skin care routine to reflect both the change in season and my skin.

Since I was not blessed with a perfect complexion, I often times find myself dealing with the problems of combination skin. I’ve used a few skin care systems in the past to target stubborn acne (teen years) but, had yet to implement a system that took control of my current skin woes. I was introduced to Tula a few months ago, Tula is a skin care line designed to create balance, hydrate, and reduce the signs of aging.
As someone who is always running out the door, I needed a system that was quick, effective, and didn’t leave me sitting in font of the mirror for hours on end. The Tula discovery line begins with their purifying facial cleanser, or what I like to call “your answer to clean skin”. The cleanser was gentle enough on my skin, but tough enough to remove a majority of my makeup. (Sidenote: I did have to use additional removal products for my mascara!)
I then follow-up with a few drops of their Illuminating serum. Not only does this add a radiant glow to your skin, it also adds balance to your overall complexion. I was so impressed by the glow is gave my skin, I went so far as to lightly dab a little on my cheek bones, after my makeup application. Doing this created a dewy sheen that lasted most of the day.

The next product in the line is the […]

Probiotics: The New Beauty Superfood

Probiotics are great for your gut, but might they also be the next beauty and skincare miracle?

Possibly.

Listen in as Dr. Roshini Raj discusses how probiotics — both externally and internally — can benefit your skin, as well as other top beauty foods you can use to help improve your appearance.

Just this year, the American Academy of Dermatology called probiotics the new beauty breakthrough for 2014, whether used topically or internally.

What sorts of conditions can probiotics help with?

Studies have shown positive results with eczema, acne and rosacea, as well as for general skin health, including anti-aging benefits, decreased sensitivity to UV rays, and decreased skin inflammation (which is the root of all evil when it comes to your skin).

How do these topical products work? Certainly you can’t just crush up a probiotic supplement and apply it to your skin in a mask… or can you?

The process is a bit more complicated than that. Skincare products that contain probiotics have gone through a process in which the live bacteria has been centrifuged (basically stirred up and released all their good benefits) and then mixed with other elements that are good for your skin, like peptides. Then, this whole concoction is manifested as a cream, serum, moisturizer, cleanser, etc. Essentially, these products have all the benefits of probiotics, without applying live bacteria to the face or other skin areas.

Now, that’s not to say that you can’t use live bacteria to try to achieve the same result. Yogurt is always a great element for a homemade facial.

If you only take probiotic supplements internally, can you achieve the same results as using these topical products?

Studies have shown that yes, they both can have the same benefits, but also that […]
