Beauty Experts on the Best Beauty Advice They’ve Ever Gotten

The Fashion Spot asked some of their favorite makeup, skin and hair pros, including co-founder of TULA Dr. Roshini Raj,  for the best beauty advice they’ve ever received.

“My mom, a gastroenterologist as well, was an interesting and inspirational role model for me. The best beauty advice I got from her was that we need to take care of our insides to look good on the outside. There is no miracle in a bottle that will give you gorgeous skin if you are not living a healthy lifestyle and managing sleep, stress, diet and exercise. This advice later became a foundation for my new skin care line TULA.”

10 Beauty Product Launches You Have To Check Out This Summer

Summer’s hottest beauty product releases

While you’re out soaking up the sun this summer, don’t forget to stop by your favorite beauty hotspot to check out these cool new product releases from some of our favorite brands (and a few new faves too).

1. Lancôme Grandiôse Mascara

They’ve done it again. The mascara genies at Lancôme have broken beauty boundaries with Grandiôse, the first ever Swan-Neck mascara. Curved at a 25-degree angle, the Swan-Neck wand gives lashes lift, length and volume by mimicking the curves of your face and grabbing lashes at the base to fan them out and nix nasty smudging. Even better? The wand’s three-dimensional curve mixes and keeps the formula fresh by sealing air into the bottle.

Availability: Grandiôse hits Lancome.com and Lancôme counters nationwide Aug. 6

Price: $32
2. Dial Acne Control Collection

The brand’s first foray into the acne realm features a trio of body acne fighters. The Face Wash, Body Wash and Face & Body Bar work overtime to banish pesky body acne resulting from workouts, general sweat and more. Dial worked with dermatologists to create the exciting new line.

Availability: Available July 2014 at grocery, drug and mass retailers nationwide

Price: $5-7 for the collection
3. fantasy Britney Spears Stage Edition Eau de Parfum

Oops she did it again. Britney Spears adds to her line of successful scents with her newest fragrance called fantasy Britney Spears Stage Edition. Inspired by some of Brit’s most memorable moments on stage, the fragrance itself is the ever popular fantasy scent and features a limited edition collectible bottle. The cool packaging pays homage to one of Britney’s most talked about performances, “I’m a Slave 4 U” from the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards (aka the python performance), and the bottle features a snakeskin-patterned wrap embellished with jewel-toned accents.

A Surprising New Cure for Acne, Eczema, Rosacea, and More

Anyone who’s picked up a magazine or visited a health food store recently should know that probiotics—a certain type of “good” bacteria—can aid your digestive health. But lest you dismiss these little microorganisms as just another vaguely-beneficial health supplement, know this: they’re actually quite the overachievers. And unlike your high school class president, you’ll actually want to hear about all that they can do—especially if you suffer from acne, eczema, or rosacea.

We spoke with Dr. Roshini Raj— gastroenterologist, doctor of internal medicine, and founder of the probiotic-based skincare line, TULA —and asked her to school us on all the skin benefits of probiotics (including why we should consider smearing it on our faces).

Bacteria Vs. Your Skin

First things first—let’s establish the fact that bacteria already exists on your skin. If that was a bombshell, we apologize. Here’s the good news: most of the bacterial cells that live inside and on your body are harmless, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. In fact, some studies show that they can even be beneficial. But as any acne or rosacea-sufferer knows, it’s not all sunshine and roses—sometimes, your body may think living microorganisms are a potential threat, and spring into action to counter it, resulting in inflammation, redness, bumpiness, and more. This is where probiotics come in.

Topical Probiotics: Protect

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, topical probiotics work via “bacterial interference”—they literally interfere with the ability of bad bacteria to provoke an immune reaction, by preventing your skin cells from seeing them in the first place.

Topical Probiotics: Calm

“Recent research suggests that when applied topically, probiotics secrete anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory substances that help with conditions like acne, eczema and rosacea,” Dr. Raj says. “By calming inflammation, probiotics are also effective in targeting wrinkles and preventing premature aging.” […]

Budget-Friendly Anti-Aging Tips

Everyone wants to look and feel young and healthy and some will spend lots of money trying to maintain our youthful body. Health Magazine’s Medical Editor and Co-Founder of TULA Skin Care Line, Dr. Roshini Raj, shares with Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Access Hollywood Live the secrets to looking younger without spending a dime.

For Acne Sufferers Probiotics May Be A Skin Sensation

Early research has shown that some topical probiotics, which are now found in a slew of skincare products, can also protect and soothe the skin. Some can even kill germs.

“They’re like little missiles that can punch holes in the walls of harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi,” Dr. Whitney Bowe said.

TULA Skincare Founder Explains How Women Can Keep Aging Hands Looking Younger

TULA Skincare Founder Explains How Women Can Keep Aging Hands Looking Younger

Women can enlist facelifts and Botox injections in hopes of looking younger, but all facial anti-aging treatments are futile once a woman’s hands are brought into the light.

Dr. Roshini Raj recently launched the skincare line TULA, boasting products that capitalize on patented probiotic technology. She joined HuffPost Live on Monday to explain what women can do to have their hands — which she claims “really show” a woman’s age — look less withered.

“Part of it is that [hands are] what’s exposed to the sun more often,” she told host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani. “But there are special creams dedicated to the hands. Basically it’s just a point of focusing on it. Don’t only focus on your face. Remember the rest of your body. … Don’t neglect the other parts of your body.”

50 Beauty Items Laden With Bacteria

Originally published on Beauty High

Bad news, germaphobes. If you are trying to steer clear of anything laden with bacteria, there’s pretty much nothing you love that you’ll still want to be touching. Obviously, you can do so with caution (and lots of hand sanitizer at your side) but since we were curious about what really holds the most bacteria in our beauty-full lives, we got down to the nitty gritty. Read on below to find out what you should be looking out for germ-wise in your everyday life – and see if you’re already passing the “clean” bill of health.
Hair Dryer: The worst thing we can do is use really old blow dryers without cleaning out their air vents, says George Gonzalez, owner of George the salon Chicago.
Flat irons/curling irons: Our style products and hair oils are getting on our hair tools every time we use them – but are we remembering to wipe these tools down after?
Loofah: Use only your hands to wash the body. Anything else is irritating, and oftentimes leads to problems such as keratosis pilaris (think plucked, bumpy chicken skin on the upper arms and thighs). “What’s worse, is that the moist environment of the loofah acts like a fertile petri dish, promoting mold and bacteria growth. Coupling the abrasiveness of the loofah with its unsanitary nature, allows for germs to easily enter the skin through the resulting microtears and cause common dermatoses such as folliculitis (red bumps and pustules at hair follicles) and impetigo (yellow-oozing or crusting on a red base),” says Dr. Rachael Eckels, ZO Skin Health faculty member and dermatologist.
Nail salon: It goes beyond sanitizing those tools. Are you being given a fresh bowl of soapy water to soak your nails in? Is your buffer […]
